The immensity of this wilderness is emphasized by the presence of the mighty canyon of the Fish River. Second in size only to the Grand Canyon of America, Namibia's Fish River Canyon is one of the natural wonders of Africa. The canyon is 161 kilometer long, nearly 27 kilometers wide and up 549 meters deep. It is set in a sudden harsh, rocky plain scantily covered with drought- resistant vegetation. As everywhere in Namibia the birdlife is abundant but the rocky terrain has kept most of Namibia’s animals at bay. Still a beautiful place to be for anyone visiting Namibia.

Vingerklip or Rock Finger 89km from Kai-Oms, Outjo
About an hour, 80 kilometers, after leaving Outjo the road passes a turn off to the south towards a strange rock formation known as Vingerklip the Afrikaans word for "rock finger". The rock stands 35 meters into the air and has been worn into its distinctive shape by time and erosion. One could call it one on natures most dramatic balancing acts and when you actually walk around the base of the Rock Finger there is always that tiny incling of "I hope it's not going to fall over". A must see for all Namibia visitors and there is also an abundance of bridlife in the area.
Sossusvlei 597km from Kai-Oms, Outjo
Situated within the boundaries of the Namib Naukluft Park it is a beautiful sight and a must for anyone travelling in Namibia. The word 'Sossus' originated from the Bushman and the Nama’s and is thought to mean 'A gathering place of water'. During the, not very often, high rainfall seasons Sossusvlei may fill with water creating a beautiful sight visited my many people from all over the world. The 'vlei' is circular depression that fills up with water and is almost entirely surrounded by massive sand dunes which stretch all the way to the coast.
Kolmanskop - The Ghost Town 1134km from Kai-Oms, Outjo
The Namib Desert ghost towns of Kolmanskop and Elizabeth Bay are continuously battered by haunting winds and surrounded shifting sand. Frayed strands of electric wire and dry rusted water pipes hang from the wails of these derelict, empty houses. Dusty light bulbs hang on skeletal cords which swing two and fourth from the old cranky ceilings in the desert winds. Refrigerators, stoves and old broken appliances lean at crooked angles protruding from the sand piles which move about the old wooden floors the water taps have run dry. A must see if you're anywhere Luderitz.
